Godzilla vs. Kong is directed by Adam Wingard (You’re Next, The Guest, Death Note) from a screenplay by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein. Starring Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, and Demián Bichir.

The Legendary monster mash was a long time coming. Playing sequel to both Kong: Skull Island (2017) and Godzilla: God of Monsters (2019), it is the fourth film in the MonsterVerse and the first where both Titans finally come face to face.

Following Godzilla’s reign as the champ of all Titans after God of Monsters, it has laid dormant for years – until now. The creature suddenly resurfaces to attack Apex – a tech organization invested in trying to solve the Earth's "Titan problem”, headed by Walter Simmons (Demián Bichir). Madison Russell (Millie Bobby Brown), daughter of Dr. Mark Russell (Kyle Chandler), decides to investigate the reason for Godzilla's seemingly unprovoked attack, with the help of conspiracy theorist Bernie (Brian Tyree Henry) and her friend Josh (Julian Dennison).

Meanwhile, Kong has been hidden away and contained on Skull Island to prevent Godzilla from locating him. Dr. Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall) has been studying him, accompanied by her adopted daughter Jia (Kaylee Hottle) before their peaceful existence is disrupted when Kong is tasked by scientist Dr. Nathan Lind (Alexander Skarsgård) to search for a power source that he believes might solve the mystery of the Titans’ origin.

Godzilla vs. Kong is first and foremost a monster film and with a title like that, we’re bound to see these mighty Titans go head to head at some point and the film not only delivers one but three pretty epic fights! Unfortunately, that also means that the human characters are less compelling and interesting than they were in the first three MonsterVerse films. But if you’re tuned in for Godzilla and Kong, that shouldn’t deter you much.

There’s a number of genre films out there that pit cinematic giants against each other (Batman and Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Captain America and Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War) but none as destructive as Godzilla vs. Kong. I mean, the size of both beings are a clear enough indication that wherever they fight, they’re bound to leave a trail of mass destruction (kill count: >1,000 probably), almost as if it's a metaphor for the state of the film – a big, loud mess.

Kong definitely has his time to shine and prove himself a king compared to the nuclear Godzilla who’s just on a rampage for the most part of the film. There are a handful of illogical things that happen and I have a lot of questions but these films aren't made for logic so I'll keep those judgments to myself.

With that all said, this film is a treat for anyone who’s craving a spectacle on the big screen, no matter whose side you’re on.

Semi-spoiler alert: there's actually a wild card in the mix that you wouldn't have seen coming because the title of the film totally throws you off scent but it's definitely something you'd appreciate. And moral of the story: humans are the worst.
