After 10 years since the first Oscar-winning documentary, ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ premiered, Al Gore is back to educate and spread the message on global environmental issues through the sequel ‘An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power’.

Directors Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk follows the former US vice president, Al Gore around his work trips, world seminars, and his live broadcast in Paris in 2015 that had to be postponed.

Everyone, or most of us, is aware of the current climate change and how our daily lives are a reflection of the consequences of our everyday actions. The filmmakers certainly hope this film will inspire and motivate others to start thinking about protecting our world and environment for the future, promoting environmentally-friendly options like adopting a solar system to generate energy and creating alternatives to natural resources.

The bulk of the ‘action’ takes place about 30 minutes into the film, where Al Gore prepares for the 2015 Paris Conference on Climate Change and his 24-hour marathon webcast. Live from near the Eiffel Tower, he had to postpone the webcast due to the news of the terrorist attack on the Bataclan night club. A rare behind-the-scenes footage is captured, where he made the decision to suspend it and went live to express his condolences instead.

One of the highlights of the film is the 2015 Paris Conference on Climate Change where India voiced their dependence on fossil fuel. Gore then decided to call up his contacts to see if the large US companies were willing to contribute their solar-energy powers to India… and let’s just say people were cheering at the end of the conference.

There are occasional horrifying footage of people getting washed away by floods, children crying on the streets with blood flowing from their heads, families escaping the debris due to natural disasters, and everyday people rescuing villages from the brink of death. These videos are hard to look at, but it sure proves a point about the effects of greenhouse gas emissions that resulted in the situation we face today.

With Trump presidency in place and his decision to withdraw from the global treaty shows us what the ‘Truth to Power’ in the title really means.

As much as the documentary features a lot of Al Gore and his sole point of view as an environmental activist, the essence of the film hopes to inspire people of all ages to do their part and make a difference.
