‘Wonderful Ghost’, alternatively known as ‘The Soul-Mate’, stars the always likeable Korean-American actor Ma Dong-seok or Don Lee (‘Champion’, ‘Train to Busan’, ‘The Outlaws’) as judo coach Jang-su.
Jang-su cares about only one thing in the world: his young daughter who suffers from an ailing heart. Anything not related to the welfare of his daughter is not of Jang-su’s concern. In the bus he takes to work every day, a gangster always bullies the elderly, but Jang-su, who is able to easily take on the gangster, ignores the bullying.
Years ago, Jang-su tried to rescue injured passengers from an overturned car on a highway, leaving behind his car filled with his wife and daughter. An oncoming truck swerves to avoid hitting the overturned car but ends up colliding head-on with Jang-su’s car, killing his wife. Since then, Jang-su has sworn off helping others, deciding to only help himself and his daughter.
In order to make extra income to afford his daughter’s heart transplant surgery, Jang-su drives for the local mob and arouses the suspicion of rookie policeman Tae-jin (Kim Young-kwang), who discovers that the local mob has been trafficking and exploiting women. Tragically, Tae-jin’s investigations get discovered by the mob and he’s almost killed. Tae-jin falls into a coma and his soul leaves his body, free to roam. No one can see him - except Jang-su, whom Tae-jin has to convince to help with the investigations and to save his girlfriend Hyun-ji (Lee Yoo-young) who has been kidnapped by the mob.
