You won’t see the killer coming! Or will you?

The Scream franchise has been around for decades but they’ve never quite delivered a sequel that stood a chance against the original, until now.

With Scream (2022) being the fifth installment (and counting?), you’d imagine they’d be scraping the barrel for new sequel storylines that would excite viewers by now. Fortunately for writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, they were successful in reviving the franchise 10 years later – after the bleak fourth sequel in 2011 – by making viewers excited for more Scream again.

As seen with the recent revival of the Matrix franchise, present time sequels seem to be relying on meta plot points to move forward. Thankfully for this slasher film franchise, using the meta route has always been its go-to and was able to use it to its advantage with both its legacy and new cast.

What transpired is a clever and daring addition to the franchise that not only reinstates everything fans fell for with the original but also brings its own flavour to the table.

Dare we say this is David Arquette’s best work in a long while? We definitely loved seeing Melissa Barrera in a meaty lead role, making her a great new addition to the franchise. Also worth mentioning is The Boys’ Jack Quaid who never disappoints. Sometimes nepotism isn't all bad.

Scream is a bloody fun watch that will make even the most squeamish of viewers enjoy being at the edge of their seats.
