[InC-terview] Korean Actor Joo Sang-Wook in Crime Drama 'Ten 2'!

By InCinemas  /  24 Oct 2013 (Thursday)

The Korean crime drama Ten returns for another season of thrilling crime stories. Follow the elite criminal investigation team in their journey in solving some of the hardest cases in Korea.

Read on to see what lead actor Joo Sang-Wook has to share about, as he recounts the exciting and challenging moments while filming Ten 2!

TEN Season 2 airs first and exclusively every Thursday at 10PM on KIX (StarHub Cable TV Channel 518) and KIX HD (SingTel mioTV Channel 309).

[Synopsis]
Directed by Lee Seung Young, Ten 2 tells the story of Team Ten, Korea’s top class criminal investigation team, that solves cases with less than 10% rate of arrests and their struggles to solve unsolved, mysterious incidents.

The crime drama series begins at the time when the tape murder, allegedly done by killer F, happens and Yeo Ji-Hoon (Joo Sang-Wook), the leader of the special crime investigation unit, suddenly disappears. Despite the breakup of the team, the other three detectives, Baek Do-Sik (Kim Sang-Ho), Nam Ye-Ri (Jo An) and Park Min-Ho (Choi Woo-Sik), continue the investigation but they are confused as all the evidence points the finger at their leader, Yeo Ji-Hoon (Joo Sang-Wook). The members of Team Ten continue to chase after the serial killer but as they get closer to revealing the truth, they are all in for an unexpected shock.

Qn: Hi Joo Sang-Wook, your role as the dark, silent and analytic leader with a sorrowful past has won you many female fans. How is the role similar and different from your actual self? What traits do you wish the character can 'absorb' from your real self and vice versa?

Joo Sang-Wook: We are two completely different people. If I were like Yeo Ji Hoon, I would not get along with people. He is very selfish and only thinks of himself.

I always create an atmosphere of cheerfulness but Yeo Ji Hoon never smiles. He is also very serious and frowns with concentration. Yeo Ji Hoon is a perfectionist whereas I am not one, although I want to be when it comes to my work.

I guess we are similar in that aspect. When I have an interview or when I am filming a TV series, I aim for perfection. Similarly in TEN 2, Yeo Ji Hoon only focuses on his work and his only purpose is to chase a murderer named “F”. His personality is very unusual and different from other characters in TV series.

Qn: Share with us, which case/episode did you enjoy the most in Ten Season 1 and why?

Joo Sang-Wook: Season 1 ended with a cliff-hanger and there was huge controversy. I also wanted to know what happened afterwards and I am sure viewers felt the same way.

In the last episode of Season 1, “The Last Class”, Yeo Ji Hoon was investigating his teacher’s death. It was not really a fast moving story, but I like the way the story aggravated Yeo Sanghun’s emptiness.

Qn: What are some of the challenges or difficulties you faced when filming Ten 2?

Joo Sang-Wook: The job of an investigator is a specialised one and because I was not familiar with that field, it was difficult to understand the script and my character. Moreover, my character plays a professor of criminal psychology. It was not easy to learn the many difficult terms and the lines were very long.

Computer Graphic Filming technique is also a highlight in TEN Season 2. In shooting the CGI scenes, I had to stay perfectly still as they were high-speed scenes. Even the tiniest movement could ruin the take. When I had to do the same take over and over again, I got really tired and I felt like I was being punished.

Qn: Do you feel the pressure for Ten 2 to perform better than its predecessor?

Joo Sang-Wook: I knew people had high expectations because of TEN Season 1 so I felt a bit pressured.

Qn: In the show, you're a team leader of this elite criminal investigation unit. What do you think it takes to be a team leader?

Joo Sang-Wook: I think a leader should be able to communicate with his team members well. I like baseball and a team that communicates well usually achieves good results. If the leader knows what his/her team members want and takes good care of them, the team members will rely on their leader and listen to him/her.

Qn: What are you working on at the moment? Can you tell me about your future plans?

Joo Sang-Wook: Recently, the Good Doctor started airing and I am busy promoting my new movie, The Punisher, which will be released in October. I have been busy since last winter and I want to rest a little bit and look for a good project for the future.
