'Meeting The Giant' Poster and Trailer revealed, Tay Ping Hui talks about his Directorial Debut!

By InCinemas  /  18 Mar 2014 (Tuesday)
The June 19 release of local film, Meeting The Giant releases its first poster and the official trailer!

The movie marks MediaCorp artiste Tay Ping Hui’s first foray into film directing and helmed as the first basketball-theme Singapore movie where both local and China audiences are able to enjoy. He tells us more about his experience and journey as a director. Hit the jump for more!

“I’m a very OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) director because I’m very particular with details”, Tay said during a partnership press conference with StarHub yesterday.

“I think I am someone who goes with the feel, I look for the feeling that a certain picture or certain shot give us, not so much about the dialogue”, he continued, giving himself a 5.5-6 rating for his directorial effort out of a possible 10.

Produced by veteran actor Jack Zhu Hou Ren, Zhu joked that he received 2 ‘yellow cards’ from Tay whenever he wanted to gave his inputs and opinions. “I almost got a red card!’, he quipped.

The birth of Meeting The Giant came about when the both actors were chatting during one of their breaks from a drama and Zhu shared with Tay about the movie’s script. While Tay gave his inputs and opinions about it, Tay said Zhu shocked him when he asked if he wanted to be a director.

“I was shocked at first, but after talking to him, I realised that we share the same point of view in terms of movies and filmmaking”, Tay explained.

When asked about the hardest part as a director, Tay cited ‘making decisions’. He continued, “You have five people coming to you, making 5 different decisions at the same time and you know that every decision you make can make or break the movie. I’ve found a new found respect for directors.”

Besides being the directorial debut for Tay Ping Hui, he will also, for the first time, be lending his voice for the movie theme song titled 《就在这里》.

Meeting The Giant is directed by Tay Ping Hui and stars Ian Fang, is set to be released in Singapore on 19 June 2014.
