Movie and Music Enthusiasts Relived the Moments at 'The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers' Performance!

By InCinemas  /  12 Jun 2014 (Thursday)

Over 5,500 movie and music enthusiasts welcomed the return of Middleearth with the long-awaited “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” at The Star Theatre, The Star Performing Arts Centre on 6 and 7 June 2014.

Presented by the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra (MFO), the second instalment of Peter Jackson’s epic film trilogy based on J.R.R Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” returned to Singapore for its Asian premiere, a year after the success of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” concert.

Howard Shore’s iconic and magical tunes were brought to life by more than 250 musicians from the MFO and the Vocal Associates Festival Chorus and Children’s Choir, together with vocalist Rosalind Waters and boy soprano Samuel Yuen, led by conductor Justin Freer.

The concert attracted a diverse crowd, from young families and teenagers to couples and working adults. “The Two Towers” also saw an influx of bookings from school groups that brought their students for an educational concert experience. All came to relive the epic film on the big screen along with a first-class live orchestral performance of the soundtrack which created an immersive experience.

Following this epic journey through Middle-earth, the MFO dives straight into its next performance, “Bridging Frontiers”, on 21 June at Esplanade Concert Hall. Conceived as an annual concert series in line with MFO’s vision to present new and groundbreaking classical concert programmes, “Bridging Frontiers” brings together lovers of both Chinese and Western classical music in a celebration of orchestral music that crosses cultural boundaries.

It will be conducted by MFO’s Music Director Maestro Chan Tze Law and will feature one of Asia’s preeminent brass musicians – horn player Han Chang Chou – and homegrown erhu performers Ling Hock Siang and Wilson Neo as soloists, in Richard Strauss’s “Horn Concerto No.1” and Liu Xi Jin’s Double Erhu Concerto “Hymn of Wusuli” respectively. The latter piece is a version for performance by Western orchestra specially commissioned by the MFO from acclaimed Singaporean composer Eric Watson for this concert. Rounding out the programme will be the beloved orchestral showpieces Antonín Dvořák’s “Carnival Overture” and Strauss’s “Don Juan”.
