Korean zombie blockbuster
'Train To Busan'
《尸杀列车》 may have only officially opened in Singapore for a day, but it has already set the record of the biggest opening day box-office for a Korean movie in Singapore! The highly anticipated movie, rated NC16, grossed a stunning $75,000 when it opened yesterday, 4th August 2016, on 25 screens!
The movie has also broken a few box office records in its domestic market, garnering more than 10 million admissions since its release on 20th July in Korea. Big Hollywood studios are said to be eyeing on the rights for a Hollywood remake.
Horror film WISHING STAIRS is the previous record holder when it collected $64,000 on its first day of release in 2003. The movie eventually finished with a total of $840,000 at the end of its film run. All-time top-grossing Korean movie in Singapore is romantic-comedy 200 POUNDS BEAUTY which collected a total of $980,000 at the end of its run in 2007.

Mr. Lim Teck, the local distributor of 'Train To Busan' is very pleased with the movie’s opening day results, “It’s been a long time since Korean movies have done themselves proud at the Singapore box office. We hope that Train To Busan will continue to perform during the National Day holidays and surpass 200 Pounds Beauty, setting a new record for Korean movies in Singapore! The great support, coupled with the encouraging news of the movie doing fantastic at the Korean box office shared by the Producers are surely instrumental in making the movie a hit locally.”

The film stars a stellar cast of Gong Yoo, Ma Dong-seok & Jung Yu-mi and illustrates how an unidentified virus sweeps the country, whereby the government declares martial law. Passengers on an express train to Busan, a city that has successfully fended off the viral outbreak, must fight for their own survival.
