3rd Big Win for Ruco Chan at the StarHub TVB Awards 2016.

By Flora  /  24 Oct 2016 (Monday)

TVB actor Ruco Chan bagged the highest accolade of the evening: ‘My Favourite TVB Actor’ category at the StarHub TVB Awards last Saturday. This is his third consecutive win of the award, equivalent to the ‘Best Actor’ honour.

At the interview backstage, Chan shared that he was ‘very satisfied’. “I am very happy with the award. I don’t think too much, or discuss what kind of awards I want but winning it for the third time, I am very satisfied. Like I mentioned in my acceptance speech earlier, I hope this dream will be passed on to my other colleagues who have put a lot of effort and handwork as well.”

Also winning in the same category is veteran actor Wayne Lai who joked that Singaporean audiences enjoyed him playing an eunuch. “I didn’t expect to win an award here,” said the 52-year-old actor who won the coveted award for his role in ‘Short End of the Stick’. “Perhaps it is because the audience in Hong Kong and Singapore are different - but I didn’t expect them to like a Gong Gong (eunuch in Mandarin)! So that’s quite unexpected. I should film more eunuch (roles) more often,” he joked.

Co-star Nancy Wu chocked up during her acceptance speech of the ‘My Favourite TVB Actress’, her first win at the StarHub TVB Awards.

“I really didn’t think I will win. This is not my first time winning an award at this award presentation, but this is my first Best Actress award. I am very happy,” the 35-year-old actress shared.

Both Wu and Chan were the biggest winners of the night, clinching at least three awards for their roles in the martial arts drama ‘A Fist Within Four Walls’. They clinched the nods for My Favourite TVB Actor and Actress, My Favourite TVB Female Character, My Favourite On-Screen Couple, and My Favourite TVB Theme Song, which they performed.

Selena Li, known to be one of Wu’s close friends, revealed that they will be celebrating Wu’s win after the awards show. “I have known Nancy for a long time and she has put in a lot of effort. I was rooting for her to win,” said the actress who previously starred in local Channel 5 drama ‘Spouse For House’.

She added: “Getting that award is not easy. You have to be hardworking, be experienced and (you’ll need) a bit of luck - be in a good drama, have a good script and a good partner - so it’s hard. We as actors, we look for that kind of opportunity, so as long as we don’t give up and keep on working hard, we will be able to make it one day.”

A telecast of the StarHub TVB Awards 2016 will be aired on 29 October via TVB First (StarHub TV Channel 860) in its original Cantonese language. The production will also be made available in Mandarin on VV Drama (StarHub TV Channel 855) on 5 November and E City (StarHub TV Channel 111/825) on 12 November.
