Hans Zimmer v John Williams: Scores of Justice
By

05 Jan 2017 (Thursday)
If asked to list down what makes a great film, most people would probably overlook the scores, let alone to bother knowing who composed them. John Williams and Hans Zimmer are nowhere as famous as George Lucas or Christopher Nolan.
But what would ‘Star Wars’ be without the famous ‘Imperial March’? You have John Williams to thank for composing the score of nearly every ‘Star Wars’ film you have watched (except ‘Rogue One’). The epic music for ‘Jurassic Park’? Also him. He also composed the score for Christopher Reeve’s ‘Superman’ films, ‘E.T.’, ‘Jaws’, ‘Indiana Jones’, and ‘Harry Potter’ films. You have been listening to his score throughout your childhood without even knowing.
John Williams talks about his approach to score 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'
Speaking of childhood, guess who composed the score for ‘The Lion King’, ‘Madagascar’ movies, and ‘Kung Fu Panda’ movies? Hans Zimmer is the man to thank for this. While he has not been in the game for as long as Williams, he definitely has an impressive list of award-winning scores up his sleeves as well. He composed for various Nolan films including ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy and the otherworldly scores of ‘Inception’ and ‘Interstellar’. Other films include ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movies, ‘Gladiator’, ‘The Da Vinci Code’, ‘Man of Steel’, and ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’.

Who do you think is the superior composer? You do not have to take sides as one of the most popular British conductors, Anthony Inglis, will bring you the scores of both composers to life.
