The award-winning film ‘
Pop
Aye
’ by Kirsten Tan finally arrives in Singapore on 13th April after a successful international festival circuit.
It bagged the Special Jury Award for Screenwriting in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, and the VPRO Big Screen Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands. This is the first time any Singapore film has received an award at either festival – a truly ground-breaking movie in Singapore’s film history.
Golden Village is also holding a special dialogue session, Blog Aloud: POP AYE, with Director Kirsten Tan. Not only will they be one of the first in Singapore to watch the movie, this lucky audience will also get a chance to hear the director share her thoughts on her first feature film.

A delightful mix of drama, heartache and humour, POP AYE tells the story of a washed-out architect Thana (played by Thaneth Warkulnukroh) who on a chance encounter bumps into his long-lost elephant Pop Aye (played by Bong the elephant) on the streets of Bangkok. Excited and a bit sick of the big city life, he takes his elephant on an outrageous road-trip across rural Thailand, running into some truly wacky characters - in search of the farm where they grew up together.
Pop Aye opens InCinemas 13 April 2017!
