In its fourth edition, the National Youth Film Awards (NYFA) 2018 announced its finalists across 28 award categories of both the Media Student and Open Youth categories. They were selected from over 450 qualified entries received across three sections: Live Action, Animation and Documentary - a hundred perfect increase in film submissions compared to 2017.
2018 marks the first year that NYFA introduced the Open Youth category, which offers opportunities for youths aged between 15 and 35 years old, with or without formal media training.
The finalist films are spread across multiple film genres such as drama, thriller, science fiction, comedy, documentary and animation, bringing a variety of styles to the fore. At the media sharing, a few jury members praised the quality of this year’s films, complimented the students work as ‘broadcast ready’.

NYFA will be rolling out a series of professional film-related workshops and courses to not only help fresh film school graduates to keep up with new developments, it also offers youths with no formal training opportunities to further their passion.
The final award ceremony will be held on 28th July, where some of the winning films will be accessible on HOOQ, a video-on-demand service where subscribers are able to watch their favourite films and dramas on-the-go. Winners of NYFA also stand to win cash prizes and training opportunities. Head to the
official website
for information on the festival.
