The Walt Disney Company has announced the development on three digital-first, multiplatform series for Southeast Asia. The initiative is part of the two-year collaboration between Disney and IMDA, to grow the pool of content creators in Singapore and give them opportunities to reach international audiences.
As part of Disney and IMDA’s efforts to develop local talent capabilities, selected participants will go on to a challenging mentorship on the slate of shows. Spanning all categories of production – including writing, producing and post production- these paid and credited positions will give Singaporean storytellers the chance to further their craft and experience different work flows, all while gaining international exposure and growing their knowledge in their field.
The three shows announced are: “The Commons” (10min x 15 episodes) a comedy series that explores the lives of a group of young adults sharing a co-working space in urban Jakarta “Meet Me at the Castle” (10min x 15 episodes) a romantic drama series about a teen girl who takes up the adventure of a lifetime and finds love and family in Paris; and “Juxtaposed” (30min x 6 episodes) a dystopian series that explores the lives of two sisters on the only surviving Indonesian island, under threat of climate change.
The talented Indonesians working across these series include producers Joko Anwar and Tia Hasibuan (“The Commons”), director Kamila Andini and producer Ifa Ifansyah (“Meet Me at the Castle”), and writer Salman Aristo (“Juxtaposed”). All three series will be in Bahasa Indonesia.
