Emma is probably the most original Jane Austen adaptation you will see

There are tons of Jane Austen adaptations out there.
There are so many, in fact, that Jane Austen is a little cottage industry.
Emma was previously adapted by Douglas McGrath in 1996 and starred Gwyneth Paltrow.
This new adaptation of Emma promises to be very different.
Just watch the trailer.
See what I mean?
The style seems partially inspired by the absurdist comedy of Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, in particular, his latest film, the period piece The Favourite.
Emma's director is American photographer Autumn de Wilde and the scriptwriter is New Zealander Man Booker-winning novelist Eleanor Catton.
The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split) as the eponymous heroine who loves to match make others but vows to not marry.
The cast also includes Bill Nighy as Mr Woodhouse, The Crown’s Josh O’Connor as Mr. Elton, Mia Goth as Harriet Smith, and Lovesick’s Johnny Flynn as Mr Knightley.
Emma will release in Singapore from 27 February 2020.
