First concept art for ‘Avatar 2’ revealed

By Flora  /  08 Jan 2020 (Wednesday)

Kids, there was a time in 2009 when a groundbreaking movie called ‘Avatar’ hit theatres. It was marketed as a film that revolutionised 3D cinema and it became a worldwide hit, earning the title of 'the highest-grossing movie in the world' for 10 years, until recently when "Marvel Avengers: Endgame" came into play and knocked 'Avatar' out of the top spot.

11 years, a full cycle of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and two Presidents of Singapore later, we have the first wave of concept art for the sequel, ‘Avatar 2’ - two years before its official release, no less - teasing the new worlds and new creatures.

Director James Cameron is currently developing four ‘Avatar’ sequels. He initially planned for ‘Avatar 2’ to be released in 2014, but needed more time for its underwater capture and improvements in the technology. But throughout the years, he and his team decided to not just make 1 sequel, but 3 sequels at the same time!

We do know that Avatar 2 takes place years after the fist movie, and introduces the next generation of characters: a human child born at the Hell’s Gate military complex, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri’s (Zoe Saldana) children, and the children of a new Na’vi clan.

Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang return to the film with Kate Winslet and Cliff Curtis joining them for the sequel(s).

If there are no further delays to the production. Avatar 2 is slated to be released in December 2021.
