SingTel streaming service partner HOOQ has called it quits

Just when you thought streaming services like Netflix would be enjoying booming business, news of streaming service HOOQ hit us last week. Started in 2015 as a joint venture between SingTel, Sony Pictures and Warner Brothers, it’s been slightly over five years that we saw the VOD service start and was trying to gain a strong foothold in South-east Asia and India. It even won Best Mobile App in Media, Film, TV or Video category at the Global Mobile Awards in 2016.
HOOQ is known for streaming content from Sony Pictures and Warner Brothers, besides other Asian titles, with some paid and some free content for viewers. In the vein of the other streaming platform, HOOQ also had original content from South-east Asia and exclusive content like Anthony Chen’s Wet Season and is available as an Annual and monthly plans, with additional add-on tiers for premium content.
With the exit of HOOQ, the other key players in Singapore are Netflix, Catchplay, Viu, SingTel Cast and StarHub Go.
