Rachel Weisz will star in a remake of David Cronenberg's Dead Ringers

The 80s psychological thriller film, Dead Ringers is about to get the remake treatment but this time as series adaptation, with Jeremy Irons’ characters to be gender-swapped and played by none other than Rachel Weisz.

It is unclear how closely the series adaptation will follow the film as Amazon Studios and co-producer Annapurna Television have yet to release a synopsis, but Annapurna COO Sue Naegle promised that it will be a “fresh take on the original, which will no doubt be even more twisted,”. Weisz’s characters will keep the last name Mantle.

Dead Ringers starred Irons as a pair of twin gynecologists, Elliot and Beverly Mantle. Not only does Elliot seduce all of his patients, but he also passes his unsuspecting lovers off to Beverly, who impersonates his brother to keep up the charade. This being a David Cronenberg film, things only get much weirder and darker from there.
