By Chen Shun / 15 Apr 2020 (Wednesday)
Ever thought of subscribing to HBO GO but you have never gone about doing it? Starting from today, 15 Apr (Wed), the channel is making the entire first season of selected series free to watch on its on-demand streaming service, HBO GO. Registration and subscription are not required. Let us take a look at what series is available.
1. The Sopranos
The story revolves around Tony Soprano, a New Jersey-based Italian-American mobster, portraying the difficulties that he faces as he tries to balance his family life with his role as the leader of a criminal organization.
2. The Wire
Set in Baltimore, this show centres around the city's inner-city drug scene. It starts as a mid-level drug dealer, D'Angelo Barksdale beats a murder rap. After a conversation with a judge, Det. James McNulty has been assigned to lead a joint homicide and narcotics team, in order to bring down drug kingpin Avon Barksdale.
3. Veep
The series follows the personal life and political career of Selina Meyer, Vice President and, later, President of the United States. This becomes a moot point when Hughes decides not to seek a second term and Meyer begins her presidential campaign in the third season.
4. Barry
Barry Berkman, a Marine turned hitman, is sent by his handler, Monroe Fuches, to Los Angeles to perform a hit for Chechen mob boss Goran Pazar, who wants him to kill Ryan Madison, an aspiring actor having an affair with Goran's wife.
5. Succession
When Greg loses his job at the family-owned amusement park, he looks to his great uncle Logan to escape his humble beginnings. Little does he know what fresh hell the rest of the family has in store for him.
6. Folklore
Each episode is based on a folklore from different parts of Asia such as; Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
7. Invisible Stories
Invisible Stories is a six-part mini-series that digs deep into the underbelly of familiar neighbourhoods in Singapore, telling the stories of marginalised and alienated characters, all living within the same public housing estate. (As a Singaporean, this is my favourite series on this list as it really hits home.)
8. The World Between Us
‘The World Between Us’ follows the aftermath of a mass- shooting where the killer, the victims, the victims’ families, the media and defence teams’ fates are all intertwined.
9. Miss Sherlock
Miss Sherlock is depicted as a "consulting detective" solving various mysteries in modern-day Tokyo. Our new Sherlock is assisted by her flatmate, Dr. Wato Tachibana, a doctor who has recently returned from volunteering medical aid in Syria.
10. McMillions
McMillions is about an undercover FBI video crew that interviews a winner who tries to obscure the origins of her million-dollar game ticket.
11. The Inventor: Out For Blood in Silicon Valley
‘The Inventor: Out For Blood in Silicon Valley’ is a documentary about the rise and fall of Theranos, the one-time multibillion-dollar healthcare company founded by Elizabeth Holmes.
